Christophe Honoré’s (LOVE SONGS, DANS PARIS) latest film, Beloved, is the closing film of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. It is a tale of romance around a mother and her daughter's adventure in love, beginning in Paris during the 60’s to London in modern times. Catherine Deneuve joins with her real-life daughter Chiara Mastroianni portraying an intimate epic that spans four decades, across cities in two countries.
Madeleine (Catherine Deneuve) and her daughter Vera waltz (Chiara Mastroianni) are always in and out of the lives of the men they love. In the early 60s, Paris girl Madeleine ( Ludivine Sagnier ) meets Jaromil, and she leaves Paris to stay with him in Prague. As Soviet tanks roll into the city in 1968, the couple separated. In modern Paris, re-married Madeleine has rekindled her love affair with Jaromil (Milos Forman). At the same time, her daughter Vera, falls in love fiercely with a gay musician (Paul Scneider) whom she meets in London.
Love can be light and painful, cheerful and bitter. This film is presenting with an elegy to femininity and passion with musical outbursts.
